Does anyone have an idea if replacement woofers (not through BOSE) are
available for the Bose 601 Series I 8" speakers? Or, does anyone have the
specs so I could match replacements?

Thanks for any help.

Tim

IF the foam surrounds have deteriorated, you are most likely to
recover the original sound by having the surrounds replaced rather
than by using different drivers. Cheaper, too, probably.

Thanks...

So then it should not matter if the replacement speakers are 8 ohms or 4
ohms?

It does matter, as it will change the overall impedance load and
crossover frequencies if you use a driver that is different from the
original driver's impedance.

It may be cheaper and easier to get your drivers refoamed. I'm not aware
of places that do refoam, but there are online stores that sell diy
refoam kits such as partsexpress.com.

And magnet size is not always an indicator of power handling, thermal or
mechanical.

Bose drivers are replaceable through Bose. Their drivers are not the same
impedance as any aftermarket brands. They do this deliberately so you don't
have a choice. P.
