HELP! My Onkyo TA-201 cassette deck (only about three years old) has
started to eat tape!

Will demagnetizing help? Do the heads need to be realigned?

You would have to have a pretty strong field in your deck to attract the
tapes to the point of eating them, and a re-alignment would be called for
only if your heads are actively swivelling and chomping down on the tape
;<{).

Try cleaning all metal parts of the tape path with 99.9% isopropyl (*NOT*
rubbing alcohol with lanolin!). The jury is mixed on cleaning the rubber
parts (e.g. the pinch roller) with the isopropyl, but I've always cleaned
mine that way.
