you can do it either with wire or optically, depending on what you have

like they say, just do it

Connect the sound card's line output to the Yamaha's line input and
hit "PLAY."

Shaun...

Of course you can....

Simply (depending on your soundcard model), connect the correct output
to the amp and select the right nput on the amp and away you go...

It REALLY is that simple...

Here's a few things to ponder over first though...
1). If your amp has an input made for a turntable (record player - wow
remember those things),, don't use this as is will most likely have a
built-in pre-amp stage and may amplify too much and cause distortion
or even internal damage to the amp...

2). On the PC soundcard, make sure you use a 'Sound Out' or similar
outlet. Don't use the speaker outlet as this may have too much
voltage/current when turned up, for the amp to handle at the input
stage. Again, it could do damage...

If I were you, I would either look at the soundcard proper, the
soundcard manual (if it has one) or search for it on the internet to
find the correct outlets... BUT,, if you see a 'Sound Out' socket on
your card (it could be a different name on yours), this will be the
correct one. It will need to be split into the 2 channels via a 3mm
stereo plug and two RCA plugs,, then plugged into the amp.

There may be other things like sound surround to consider in newer
cards and your amp may not have an input for this. This is outside my
setup so I cannot comment in it.. I have a SB Live (don't we all) and
it has the 4 channels but I only use the front 2 connected to my
amp...

I have been using this sort of setup for my PC's ever since I first
used a soundcard,, the original SB16,, way way back... I have also
been doing this with all the TV's, VCR's etc for over 20 years now.
