>>>> The word "signal" has two meanings -- the waveform coming out of or
>>>> going into a circuit, and the information carried by that waveform.
>>
>>> Actually, it has even more meanings. "Continuous" also has
>>> multiple meanings, and your failure to distinguish between them
>>> caught you up last time. You called a discrete-time signal
>>> "continuous", although in the mathematical sense usually
>>> used in Signals and Systems, a discrete-time signal cannot
>>> be continuous, as it is a series of discontinuous points with
>>> no continuity anywhere.
>>
>> I never said anything of the sort. You either can't read (likely) or
>> you're lying (not so likely).
>>
>> A discrete-time signal can be analog. Analog and continuous do not
>> mean the same thing.
>>
>> Sorry, but I am always always right. Sorry about that.
>
> Masturbating in public is impolite, but I guess you really
> crave the attention that you can't get in real life. I'm sure
> you're accustomed to being ignored and reviled, because
> that's what you demand.
>
> And you have confirmed what most of us already knew:
> you don't mean it when you apologize. Your recent sham
> apology was not sincere, which you have confirmed at least
> four time now, since you puked it onto Usenet.
>

100% agreed.

William is like most "know-it-all" personalities: only he
knows the truth, and everyone else is a dumbshit.

Get over yourself, William, you've got the attention you wanted...
now put your dick back in your pants....

No. A normal digital multimeter will certainly load the voltage and it
will read wrong, but if you know the value of the mic's bias resistor
and of the meter, Ohm's law will take you to the true voltage.
>>> This is a live reinforcement question, but has anyone here been to a Brad
>>> Paisley concert lately? The opening acts were Lee Brice and Chris Young. The
>>> venue sound was excellent. It was surprising how good it was. However, when
>>> Paisley came out, the (same) mics had the bass rolled off at what must have been
>>> 200 Hz or higher. The SM58s sounded like Astatic D104s. At first, I thought the
>>> mic had failed, but as he moved to other mics, the EQ curve followed him.
>>>
>>> Why would he do that? He moves around a lot, and maybe he has a problem with FOH
>>> feedback, but the vocal quality was horrible. It totally ruined the concert. Of
>>> course, 98% of the people there couldn't tell the difference.
>>>
>>> On a side note, it was also distressing to learn that Brad apparently loves
>>> AutoTune. The first two songs were so pitchy that my daughter even noticed.
>>>
>>> The venue level was dangerously loud. If I had not taken ear plugs, I would have
>>> had to leave. I feel so much concern for the young people there who have no clue
>>> how much damage they're doing to their hearing.
>>>
>>> At several points during the concert, we heard Brad's guitar from the stage amps
>>> or the floor monitors. They were not adequately mixed in the FOH like the other
>>> guitars and the drums.
>>>
>>> It was an enlightening and disappointing evening. Does anyone here have any
>>> inside information or intelligent guesses what was going on? This guy is a SUPER
>>> star.
>>
>> Any possibility it was the autotune processing that ruined the vocal quality? I've heard examples that sound much like what you're describing....and it was the stupid autotune settings at the root of the problem.
>> It probably won't make you feel any better....but I've often heard that country singers use autotune as much....or even more....than "pop" or rock style singers.
>> I can't vouch for that based on my own experience, however....but some of the folks who've commented to me about it, are pretty knowledgeable.
>> Autotune--especially when used for the effect, is one "fad" I wish would just go away! For me, it's an instant "yuck!"
>> Mike
>
> I'm not any closer to an answer now than I was when I posted this. It still
> makes absolutely no sense to me why they would narrowband his microphones. If
> the problem was AutoTune, there is a lot wrong because his first two songs were
> as bad as Taylor Swift. He would have been voted off of American Idol for either
> of those songs.
>

His live show has some issues at times - he uses little Voxey dr. Z
amps that have absolutely no clean. His records feature what sounds
exactly like a Deluxe Reverb on 3-4,and those are very different
things.

He has a good live guitar sound, but it's nothing like the records.
Since he's covering his own CDs...

> After going back and listening to his CDs a little, I'm still convinced that he
> is an extraordinary artist deserving of his superstar status. However, I'm at a
> total loss for an answer to this audio question.
>

Beats me. SFA Autotune in country goes, WSM means We Shield Millions,
the motto of the National Life and Accident Insurance Company.

Country may sound hokey at times, but it's always been a
serious *commercial* form.
>>> Greetings all,
>>>
>>> I have some money left in my production budget this year and thought
>>> about adding a new mic or two to our collection.
>>>
>>> Currently, we don't have any ribbon mics...and I've often thought it
>>> would be a nice addition, if I can find one we can afford.
>>>
>>> Is there anything out there between say $500---$1,000 that might be
>>> worth considering? Potential uses would likely include trumpet,
>>> trombone, etc. (I had a trombone player in our studio a while back & he
>>> let me use his personal ribbon mic....and while it sounded fabulous, it
>>> also costs around $3,500....not likely something we can afford at this
>>> time!)
>>>
>>> Any suggestions?
>>>
>>> Thanks in advance,
>>>
>>> Mike
>>
>> AEA R84 should be on your list.
> +1 for Hank's suggestion of the M160. Not only does it have a great sound
> on brass, but the hyper-cardioid pattern solves a lot of isolation
> problems in small rooms.

I've had an m160 for years. I tried it last on sax and chose a Schoeps cmc641
instead.

For Ribbon Mics, also try an AT4080. Not your grandfather's ribbon mic...A
review with samples is on my blog.
>>>> Have you all seen this yet? It is a new kind of acoustic guitar
>>>> eliminating traditional bracing, and in so doing sounds beefier than
>>>> traditional acoustics. The action is also instantly adjustable. I at
>>>> least want to try one if I can get my hands on it for a bit...
>>>>
>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNpQNtz3EJ0
>>>>
>>>>
>>> Yeah - that is pretty cool...
>>
>> I hope you can try one. You'll see what I mean.
>>
>>
> Well, I'm in the UK - but I'd love to try one! I'll keep an eye on
> things too ;-)

EMD Music SA Brussels is actually bigger there than here, and also on the
continent, so I imagine you will be amongst the first.

Plus you can actually get Trevor's VOS Guitars there. My niece works in
London at the moment for a large ad agency there not only for her
business degree, but she is also multilingual in finance which is handy.
