I think in the late 50s early 60s, every domestic audio company
(Phillips, Telefunken etc) in the world made "that" tape recorder. I'm
pretty sure the internals were virtually identical. Can't ID it more
precisely than that, I'm afraid. Does still have its model number
plate?

No clue, I don't know anything about those consumer recorders and there
were millions of different ones made. Maybe the folks in
rec.antiques.radio+phono would have an idea?

Looks like an RCA branded recorder made by Wilcox Gay around 1957
