Hi

I've bought a Shure SM58 microphone, which I need to connect to a 6.5mm
and 3.5mm plug (obviously not at the same time...)

I'm not sure what's needed to convert it's XLR plug to 6.5mm
I can get an adapter from Streetwise (www.streetwise.com.au)
- It's described as: "Unbalanced signal converter with an XLR socket to
a 6.35mm stereo plug. Features a heavy duty construction and gold
plating which ensures better conductivity and longer life."
http://www.streetwise.com.au/product...oducts_id=2927

I'm not sure what the unbalanced bit means... Can someone explain? I
can't find anything understandable on Google.

Is there a different solution I can use... that isn't all that
expensive. (At the moment, it's kinda just a toy.... so I don't need
great quality right now.)

Thanks,

David Angelovich

You didn't say what your application was. Are you trying to plug this
thing diectly into a sound card or an amplifier?

The XLR is a balanced connector because it uses 3 wires not 2. In the
end it just means that you can use a longer cable run without too much
noise.

Again, you need to say what you're trying to do. Good luck.

I'm going to be using it with a sound card, and possibly with an amp....
It's mostly for voiceover-type stuff...

Generally speaking, plugging a good mic into a sound card isn't a great
idea unless you've paid a *LOT* for the card? You'll probably need a
microphone pre-amp ...
