My Sony Dat mixdown deck bit the dust and I found a couple of Tascam
DA-40 decks pretty inexpensively in NYC off Craig's list. They both
work fine but neither has the wired remote. Any leads on the RC-D45
remote? I've tried Tascam and Angelfire but no luck. The remote
would make my life much easier!

thanks,

Paul

Check the service manual. I think that the wired remote is just a box
of switches with a connector on the end, and no actual electronics inside.
If that's the case you should be able to build one yourself without too
much trouble, or adapt an old Ampex 350 remote box....

Correct. I am recording on a Tascam TSR 8. I have a lot of
previously recorded masters that were recorded to DAT, so I needed a
replacement deck. I also saved my later masters on CDR and on an SD
card using a TASCAM DR1. Other suggestions as to a mastering format?
I want my masters to last a long time. My psychic predicted I will
become really popular in 2054.

Thanks!

Paul

I hate to tell you this, but the only mixdown format that I know of that
I can _guarantee_ will last a long time is 1/4" tape.

DAT is really a mechanical abomination. I use it too, but I also get all
the decks cleaned and aligned every year and I have Eddie Ciletti make sure
they all meet original specs.
