I just upgraded my win 7 64 bit system from a i3 2100 to an i5 2500k
and it seems that the latency can't go as low as it did before. I
could slide the slider all the way to the left to get it down well
under 160 samples for a latency around 2.something and now the slider
stops at 160 (i think that's the number, i'm not at the studio right
now...), can't go farther left, and the latency is over 7. Does this
make any sense to anyone? Thanks!

Oh yeah, I'm using the latest cubase 6.52 and have 8mb ram and... a
yamaha n12 board which has been really stable since the last update
over a year ago...

Isn't that a function of your audio hardware ASIO driver?

yeah, i think so, but it won't go any lower than 160 in cubase and in
the driver settings. i'll have a look again on Monday and see if I can
explain it better, or maybe i just missed something... Thanks for the
reply!

yeah, it definitely won't go lower than 160 in the yamaha driver
settings. very very strange and i'm not sure what to do. it's just at
that noticeable point and i've put a lot into this project. latency
wasn't supposed to be an issue anymore...

What's the interface? PCIe?

Itīs a mixing board with built-in Firewire interface.

Anyway, itīs very strange, that the latency gets worse after putting a
faster processor into the computer. :-\

I wouldn't want to be obvious, but a bad altency with a fast hardware
means a driver issue.

Have you checked that the driver selected in cubase (peripherals/
peripheral configuration/ VST audio system / ASIO pilot)is indeed the
fastest available. And that it has not swithced, for wathever reason, to
Asio DirectX full duplex or Generic low latency ASIO, for instance.

Tell us.

Huey

It's strange, but has nothing to do with teh processor. More likely
Windows has reconfigured something which has altered the behaviour of
the driver. You may even need to manually check the registry settings
for the driver to see if there is anything restricting it there.

What does Yamaha say about it?

hi, thanks! it's in the yamaha driver settings whether cubase is open
or not... it definitely hasn't switched to other drivers.

nothing yet. i'll be calling them on their 1 900 hotline in the next
few days i guess... i was thinking of reinstalling the drivers, but
this N series is notoriously finicky and the install went quite
smooth, so I don't want to jinx it. It was running really well before,
and still is actually, just the latency is a tiny bit high now... the
processor is the only thing that is different...
