When seemingly unrelated problems happen at the same time, look for
what they have in common. That means the control microprocessor,
the associated electronics, and the power supply to them. And that
latter part means checking for bad decoupling caps and bad solder joints
as well.

I absolutely hate working on this kind of consumer gear and it is usually
not worth the labour to repair. But I would first get the schematics
from Sam's Photofacts or the manufacturer and start looking around with a
scope on all the lines near the microprocessor.
