Hi

I recently installed a Diamond Xtreme Sound card with optical in and
out. Can't quite seem to get the optical in to work, but otherwise its
fine. The specs read that "Dobly ex" and DTS formats are supported -
the software only has a setting for "dolby live" and when I play a DTS
encoded wav through the optical out into a DTS equipted amp - all I
get is static. Burn that same wav to a CD, and play that CD on a DTS
compatible DVD player - and I get the full decode.
so I have two questions - (and yes I have downloaded and installed the
latest drivers, and yes - its an XP machine)
1. any ideas on why the optical in would not be working
2. how can I play the DTS encoded wav files - without having to burn
them to a CD

thanks
Bill

Does it play a plain stereo file OK? To me, static-like noise suggests that
you may not have a good optical connection or incorrect sample rate
settings.
If a stereo file plays correctly, then it's likely an issue of enconding
as you
suspect, but check the basics first.

Make sure that the DTS data stream arrives at the optical output without
any alteration. Any processing by an equalizer, level control or similar
function in the computer's signal path ahead of the digital output will
make the DTS signal unreadable for the connected decoder.
