question about shuffle function on mp3 players

I recently bought an RCA RP8078 CD player. Along with playing CDs, it
also plays mp3s. But when I put an mp3 disk in and play it in shuffle
mode, it only plays the first 100 or so tracks. The rest of the
tracks are never played. After the first 100 tracks are played, it
stops playing. Somehow, it does not read the tracks beyond track 100
in the shuffle mode. If I play it without the shuffle mode, it does
read all of the files.

For those of you experienced in mp3 players, is it normal for this to
happen? I'm trying to decide if I should return this item and get
another one. Does anyone have any advice?
