From a physical point of view it is obviously possible. It is however
the kind of repair that is likely to be described in the service manual
for you loudspeakers as "last resort".
As an example of the issues you will encounter, and that you are
obvioulsly incompetent to do anything about, please look at the
frequency response graph of this budget 12" unit:
http://www.monacor.com/int/en/produk...tprogramm.php?
artid=2118&spr=EN&typ=u
Monacor generally makes cost-efficient stuff, and they also have
costlier models, but the probable midrange smoothness of the 12 inch
loudspeaker units in your Jubals is not easy to come by, and it is a
great part of what you paid for when you paid for JBL back then. You
have also payed for a system that is matched by listening rather than by
measurement, and such systems may be more difficult to modify to use
other units than what was in them ex works than some other systems.
It is quite possible that JBL will suggest one of their modern 12" units
as sparepart in case the repairkits no longer are available ex works.
Some repairshops still stock old parts, which is why I suggested that
you should contact an authorized repairshop.
You have still not posted what is actually wrong with the unit(s).
Again, if it is only about the front suspension the best solution may be
a third party front surround fitted by a quality repair-shop, I do not
think JBL offers front suspension repair kits, but I am not sure.
It is your loudspeakers, you will have to do the minimum effort of
contacting JBL as per the addres in the provided link you did not look
for yourself.
What appears quite difficult is to get you to understand that not all
12" woofers are alike and that the system will most likely sound like
crap if you put something other than the real thing in one of the boxes.
That said, there is no doubt that JBL has modern 12" woofers that will
fit the cabinet nicely, but you will have to get one for each box and
the cabinet will need re-tuning (x), if you are very lucky the
cross-over is a close enough match because the woofers will be only
modestly dissimilar.
(x) lengthening or shortening of the bass reflex port(s)
Follow up mostly written for the benefit of other people reading this
now or later or finding it on Google Groups, it is never constructive
just to say that some idea is not well thought out.
