(I posted a version of this story way back when I joined this "group". Just
in case anyone missed it I'm posting it again)

Saturday Afternoon....
.... was a musical project started back in the early 1990s when I first
discovered computer recording software. I had tuned a customer's piano and
noticed no tape decks where they usually set up, but instead replaced by a
computer. He was pretty excited about the set up and we bartered the tuning
for a copy of the software ( I know, I know....not good ethics).
I was amazed that so much music could be made with only the soundcard (which
actually wasn't bad for consumer grade....a Yamaha XG) and even more amazed
that I could plug my guitar into the input and record that as well.

Every Saturday afternoon while my wife was doing her cleaning/laundry/etc.
I'd sit for a few hours and compose using my newfound friend, the computer.
But computers had limited storage back then.....and I was running out of
room.....so....
I go to my computer guy (ex-computer guy now) and he recommended installing
a Zip drive (CD drives were just coming into the market at the time and not
much was known about them).
I bring it in and wait for his call to come pick it up.
And wait....and wait....and wait....
So I'm at the local mall and I decide to give him a call. He's real sheepish
and I can tell right away that something's wrong.
He explains that his "tech" had mistakenly formatted my hard drive and all
my data was lost.

Looking back, I wish I had known about saving in a "MIDI" format, but I was
green to this sort of stuff. Cripes, that could have fit on a floppy.
But that was it. Gone. Kaput! Weeks.....Months....Zilch.

Anyway, this song is what's left of the project. I was very fortunate enough
to have mixed it onto a DAT tape days beforehand.
It still is a pretty good piece of work IMHO. I'm thinking of including it
in my next Sonic Music CD.
I just would love to have the MIDI file just to rout the parts to the gear
that I now own.

Back up your data......before it's too late.

Very nice tune, Larry!
I had a friend who lost stuff constantly. No amount of tutoring could
get their head straight. Grim times in data-land

I saved a Cakewalk project for a vocal accomp. I really needed the
midi files to rework it. All it have is the audio mixdown. So I'm gonna
have to load those up in Melodyne and convert them back to midi.

I wish a lot of DAWs would go back to making the editing windows the
biggest feature. Even the new version you have to click and drag to make
it to your liking.
