    hi all,

firstly aPologies for the caPital P's, my keyboard is faulty! after Posting a thread about uP-grading my Pink triangle yesterday, i've now decided to uP-grade my arcam amP instead, Possibly to an avi (which someone suggested yesterday and have received great reviews).

Firstly does anyone have one and if so can i get your oPinion, secondly anyone know where i can get one 2nd hand, and lastly is there an earlier model to the s21 m1(my question mark key has also just given uP) or is this the earliest integrated

Sorry about that, have now plugged in an external keyboard so my 'p's are now small again!

i've just browsed the net and seen one for sale for £380, (at
http://www.emporiumhifi.com/Pages/ModernPages/SolidState.html ). However i simply states 'old model', but I don't know what this model is and how it compares as I can only find reviews of the current one.

I'll request some pics tomorrow from the dealer. Does anyone know anything about previous models to the S21 M1?

    thanks for all your help.

    AVI Lab Series

I am a very happy owner of a Lab Series, so naturally would recommend. It has excellent bass grip and detail resolution, including low level/ambience information, yet very natural and unfatiguing.

One recently sold on ebay for ~£1,100, which made me :) as that's more than I paid for mine (used) almost 3 years ago. Shows how sought after they are. They also occasionally appear on hififorsale.com for £800 - £1,100.

I have not heard their older amps, but seem to remember seeing a comment somewhere that they have a drier presentation than the Lab Series.

It's also worth looking here http://www.hifitradingstation.com/
they currently have an "S2000" pre/power combo for £800 which I believe was the series immediately prior to the S21 Lab Series, and (I think) also included an integrated.

Be careful with the older model mono block amps, the output devices were not up to the job and breakdown quickly. I cant remember the serial number range, but AVI should be able to give you the info.

The old series is quite good and should go for about £300.

thanks all. I've now spoken to AVI who put me in touch with Five Ways in Birmingham as they specialise in 2nd hand AVI products. The one within my price range is the 2000 series integrated (the later model), however neither came with a phono stage, so I'll now need recommendations for one of those! I was thinking musical fidelity but five ways said to go for a project, you views would be appreciated….

Looks like I’ll definitely by looking to buy an AVI thanks to the advice I have received on this forum, so thanks very much. I hadn’t heard of them three days ago!

The alternative is to get an avi 2000 series preamp with the phono built in and the matching stereo power amp - for about £250 each. Thats only £200 more - and you would need to spend £50-100 on a phono unit anyway.

My friend might be looking to sell his avi preamp - it has a phono stage. He has upgraded to an audio synthesis passion.
