I have a pair of event monitors that I am trying to use as remote speakers connected to my sony receiver. So far all I get is a hum when I hook them up. What am I doing wrong? I am a novice at this so please assume that I know nothing when you respond. :)

How have you connected them to your receiver?

Event monitors are active, so should be connected to a pre-amp output, not to loudspeaker outputs.

Furthermore, most active loudspeakers have balanced inputs, so need to connected to a balanced output, not available on most receivers, or need to be unbalanced correctly.

If you can tell us what sort of cable and what pins of the connectors go to where, we may be able to advise the best solution.
