I think it's an incredible achievement. Well done, Linn!

Read MF's review (also on the site if you do a search).

I mentioned the award in the thread that turned boring. Just proves how distorted some peoples views can be on the internet IMO.

yes, it has the makings of a ''lifetime achievement award'' at the oscars. I think the LP12 is an iconic classic, and Linn deserve recognition for it.

Linn engineers also deserve the opportunity to design a TT with a clean sheet design too.

I would love to see what Linn could design if they started to design a TT from the ground up in 2005.

Im not knocking the LP12, I just feel that now, in 2005 - some 30 years after they last designed a 'new' TT, its way past time that a company that is renowned for innovation (unidisk, multiroom, the clasik etc) had another crack at the egg.

I subscribe to the mag and was gobsmacked when I saw the LP12 winning the award - simply cos most in the media now appear to slag it off.

MF's review was a very good read from someone who isn't a dyed in the wool LP12 lover.

The Unidisk won 3 awards in that issue - I want one, can't afford one, I'm gutted :(

Just to really throw things up in the air - Sterophile gave it top spot in the 100 best components of all time, hifi Choice gave it top in the most important components.

The fact it is still in production, still a quality component and still giving loads of musical pleasure to many shows it is still up there.

And they don't go out of tune as easily as some would have you believe.

My LP12s have never gone out of tune, in 20 years. They need regular cleaning, a ten minute job perhaps 3 or 4 times a year, and that's it.

Mine hasn't gone out of tune since it was last serviced about 6 years ago.

Quick dust every now and again and give the lid a polish with some proper acrylic cleaner and that's it.

I have a spare belt but had no need to use it since being serviced.

Certainly helps - but that can be said for a lot of different turntables.

Competent installation is assumed. The suspension isn't supposed to bounce about.

So what's it there for then, thought the idea was to remove vibrations. Seems a waste of engineering to have a system and not use it.

It's there to isolate the platter & arm from the motor unit & plinth vibrations. This is basic stuff, don't you know anything?

The unidisc is overrated. I demo'd one when they first came out a few years ago. The cd and dvd are no better than the cyrus dvd8, which costs a quarter of the price. Even the sales guys were stumped to highlight any difference. Waste of 4k, unless your happy to pay excessively for styling, like B&O customers.
