i heard their cheapest set up at heathrow last year and loved it - for me it was one of the better sounds of the show. that and the fact that it looks like nothing else available would prompt me to buy some in an instant if i had the readies.
if you want to save yourself a few bucks have a google for 'gainclone' as the 47 labs amps are mega simple and imho a bit overpriced for what they are - even by hi-fi standards. that said if you want the looks and / or you are all thumbs with a soldering iron then 'off the shelf' is the way to go i guess.
    cheers

    Hi Julian, interesting stuff.
I had a recommendation from a seemingly reputable source that they really do need to be considered. He tells me they are very capable at reproducing a wide range of music with great agility and are good for intimate presentation (etched imaging, inky black noise floor, etc.) and very capable with house, dub reggae, rock...

Easy-peasy to build..if you can solder ok...

Damn good performance too... especially if you use good quality components...

Put in a Google search for: Decibel Dungeon Nick has a good site for Gaincloning and he has built a fair few himself...

    Regards

I'll post some pics later of my GainClone.

Well worth the doing if you are driving easy speakers. Not worth thinking about for your Appogee's :D

    Greg,

I use 47Lab's shigaraki transport/dac combo, and have heard the full 47lab reference system at Mr. Kimura's place. To my ears the 47lab gears nailed the delicate balance among smoothness, resolution, articulation and dynamics. As a result they sound very musical and natural. Good stuff indeed.

Maybe not.... The Duetta Sig's are very easy to drive, more or less a flat 4 ohm load and the 3886 will do 10 amps output current... so maybe I might try:D :D

    Hi Lee,

The 3886 will do 60w into 4 ohm with a +/- 28v supply. Thanks for the link, had a look and it seems interesting, will have more of a look when I have more time.

    Regards

As someone who knows jack sh*t about electronics - its pretty fascinating.

Are we saying the 47 Lab stuff is ultra simple circuit design being sold as minimalist hi-fi or do we think they charge a fair price for a specialist *retailed* *product* (ie. adding disti and dealer margins on top of cost + profit)?

The geezer who got me interested talked about their amps having the shortest signal path of any out there - you could also interpret this as no frills - aka low value. :)

    Or maybe not...

'Fair price' and HiFi, surely an oxymoron :D

The Gainclone is a (component) simplified version of the original, and apparently sounds better for it. Read this review of a Gainclone and the follow up by the originators. They were not happy chappies http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/audiooasis/audiozone.html to say the least
