I have two Alesis RA500 power amps to sell. Both are in perfect condition and have really done very little work, just sat gathering a bit of dust (now wiped off!).

I have modified both amps to bypass the front gain controls using cryo and heat treated pure silver wire (if that sort of thing floats your boat), the channel matching is a bit better like this and imaging is improved. If you want the gain controls back I can re-connect them.

The amps have 150 watts per channel or can be set to mono-block mode with 500 watts each. The rear connectors are RCA, Jack (TRS) and XLR. Chunky binding posts for the speakers.

Don't let the low price fool you, the sound is superb. The build is too, actually! They are not just a brute force PA style amp. In fact I would describe them as a Bryston 3B-SST for the cost conscious (I have had active PMC speakers with Bryston amps). The mid is open and detailed and the top is clean and focused. The bass of course, is powerful and tight, what with that massive power supply and all those watts on tap. They are basically as close to a blameless power amp as you will likely find.

Now the good part - £85 each + P&P (£10 P&P each if your in the right area as I have a good courier deal for certain places, otherwise its UPS).

I'm going thru some experimentation with poweramps, so these will add to the fun.

am interested in both if still available - discount for bulk?

Hi, how about £150 for both (thats 50% of retail), if you pay cash? Edinburgh is in my area for cheaper courier delivery so it would only be £20 to send both (they ARE pretty heavy!). :)

Glad these sold before I spent money i don't have! Tenson, out of interest, how do you think these amps would perform with PMC DB1s on the end?

I think any amp that is tonally neutral and has a bit of gusto suits PMCs, to be honest. The RA500 do seem unbeatable in that department for the outlay, or anything close.

I was interested in these myself, but with two weeks off work with flu, and after buying some Mana soundstages I habe been left short so I was unable to afford them at the moment.

(Apologies for not getting back to you Tenson)

One day I will get something similar...

Let me know how you get on with them Ditton, never know.. if in a few months you grow tired of them...

nice to know that there may be sell-on options if I decide these are not for me. Give me a month of faffing abawt

may well be interested if they don't work out for you Ditton. Happy playing in the meantime!

just to let you (all) know that two boxes have been delivered. Look OK from the outside, and I'm so poorly from this flu/cold that I cant get the ummph to open the boxes! :-( poor me ...

Tenson ...your cheaper courier service to Edinburgh, sounds like they took them on a bike (or British Rail) :)

My sympathies Ditton,

I have just spent three weeks off with a very bad flu, not the best way to enjoy yourself, get well soon.

will need to let me know how you get on with these mate

have now recovered with sufficient enthusiasm to open the boxes, and all looks well so far.

I've even been reading the documentation before plugging them in!

will now transfer chatter to the main forum
