A mate is looking to buy a new hifi, he's got £400 to play with. He's currently looking at the Technics SC-DV290, think he wants something one make like that, small, lots of features. Anyway, are there any better options at that price (dont think he'll be interested in your usual Cambridge Audio CD player, Rotel amp etc).

    how about a used classik?

    a denon micro system?

a squeezebox, a small pair of active studio speakers (tannoy reveals for example), and his existing PC?

option 3 is the coolest IMHO :)

Another vote for option 3, providing he has broadband he can use the internet radio feature as well.

Work on about £190 for the squeezebox gives plenty to play with for some decent active speakers, or some Acoustic Energy AEGO2 for £100 and £100 spare!!

Yes, those are Mordaunt Short 902 and they are £119.95 from Richer Sounds. Oddly this is the same price as the 302 models. Weird. Still, a bargain.

I refer the honorable gentleman to the Sonic Delights thread made earlier, where £60 buys you an amp and pair of speakers. It needs feeding with music, which can include the Internet/dac, CDP, mp3 player etc

I used to run a Denon DM-31 thing with monitor audio B2's and it sounded great ! The Denon is still in use in a second system, great little gadget.

Found out why Richers are running out of DM31s. It has been replaced by this:

    ...the DM35DAB for £259.95 from Superfi :)
