I was looking for a new cheap and simple diy project and thought I'd try some old full-range units from Goodmans. I'm not expecting them to sparkle on the uppermost frequencies but they do seem to have a bit of a following with some folk. I've got a single Axiom 300 on the way from ebay for £32 delivered as a start, though I might struggle to find a partner for it as they're old and not very common. I did have a pair of later axiom 201's a few years back but that was before I'd tried my hand at anything diy so sold them on, but they looked nicely made and reassuringly substantial.

I had considered trying out an open baffle design just for fun, easy to do and if I use mdf it's cheap enough to scrap if it sounds crap. :)

Wow, cool! Do you still use the 201's or did you switch to the Ciare's permanently? Not anywhere near Yeovil are you, I wouldn't mind a listen if you've still got them!? The 300 is an older driver than the 201 but is probably quite similar - 12" with whizzer, I've found another single one for sale as well :), and what's more I have a couple of piezo tweeters hanging around to help out the hf a bit.......

I'm not using the 201s, nor the Ciares. Still open baffles though with the Hawthorne SI/Augie drivers.

It would be quite a lot of work to set up the 201s again. Incidentally, due to space problems, I am about to chuck out those TL subwoofers I used with the 201s. The cabinets are here for the taking, and I'll take offers for the drivers.

I'm in the town with the shortest pier in the country! ;)

Not really thinking about subwoofers at the mo' as I haven't even received the driver yet. I'll be experimenting at my workshop so I can get away with huge baffles, will see what develops!

No idea what town you're in (I'm not a pier expert), but as you're coastal somerset I have a reasonable idea of general region! ;)

Does 'lighthouse on stilts' give you more of a clue? ;)

In that case I will have to tell you that I live in Burnham-on-sea! (about 45 miles from Yeovil)

Ah yes, the Axiom 80, I've read about them, Thorstens Magnificats etc. Rare, sought after, and therefore expensive (like really expensive). Be nice to find a pair in a junk shop :))), but otherwise totally out of my reach and not the cheap and cheerful project I had in mind!
