i'd really appreciate a little help

    how does one fit valves?

do they only go in one way?, does it matter what way around the pins go? Does the preamp need to be stone cold before I try it? Obviously it needs to be unplugged from the wall? any other tips

also what are the audible symptoms of existing valve beggining to go south?

    thanks

    John,

The 6922 has 9 pins with a space between 2 of the pins. It can only go in one way.

Doesn't need to be cold but the valves of course might be hot.

Safest if not absolutely necessary to unplug.

Which flavour of 6922 are you replacing with?

I do now have a spare pair of Amperex if you wnat to try them

Never heard any 6N1P. Fairly sure they are generally a drop in replacement. I've just swapped my 6DJ8/6922 for some 6CG7. Definitely a richer sound not sure which I prefer though!

Sure, whenever is convenient, lets me know and I'll bring 'em all along
