Mmmmm...nice. And quite a long way below the Ebay price of asking IIRC too.

Bargain for someone, in other words. :)

Anyone compare this to the CD93? Or the Meridian 507 perchance? I'd be interested in a downgrade (at least in cost terms) to the Alpha 9 if it performs similarly to my Meridian. But as I reported in another thread, I found the CD93 wasn't quite as good as the Meridian. So might consider the Alpha 9 but only if it was better than the CD93... (which I'm sure I've heard is the case, but not sure where.)

I know, but I'm trying to be sensible with my finances just now... Don't much fancy taking any risks, even minor ones like this. :-/

Was just wondering if anyone had any experiences comparing the Alpha 9 to more recent Arcams. Could just tip the balance. :)

Well if it helps, I now own an Arcam CD192. To my ears it performs at least as well as the Alpha 9 in all departments and exceeds it in one or two. I think the Alpha 9 might have a slight edge on rhythm and toe-tap-ability, but not by much. The 192 does the hifi niceties of stage height, width and depth better than the Alpha 9 and is a little smoother in the treble but again the difference is small. I bought the 192 mainly for aesthetic reasons - it complements the ATC with its black fascia and silver buttons.

As for the price, well it is 5 years old. I think anyone still asking £350 is way over the top now.

Both players respond well to the addition of isolation (I use a siesmic sink) and better mains cables (I use Omiga now, but Eupen also gives a useful boost over the stock cable).
