OK, how many of you reckon you're normal?

How much time is healthy to spend on hifi forums talking about op amps and plug sheilding?

Come on now, I've met a lot of you. Don't you sometimes feel you are missing out on life?

define normal! :)
And who wants to be normal anyway. Does it involve a gray suit and dull conversation?

I do spend to much time pondering all things hifi but do get out. Everyone needs a hobby otherwise we would drive each other mad. Mind you I guess as a hobby it drives plenty of people mad anyway!

yeah, I'm normal...

as for the amount of times I spend of these forums - well, I only frequent them whilst I'm at work...:D

so, whats the problem..?

OK sorry I thought you were doing this kind of thing in your spare time., not whilst some poor sod is paying you to work for them!

nah, I'm too busy living life, and of course listening to music and watching dvds!

Good job someone's giving you the money to buy them eh?

Especially when they are giving you that money for your time spent on here, how generous of them!

I browse both at work and in spare time - I work in a hifi shop though so does it count as research? :D
To be fair though, we don't retail the brands oft discussed on here so I visit here for a different perspective, and it's very useful.
I don't really care what people class me as - some people class football loving piss artists as normal, others jobless scallies. Normal is a perspective. By my perspective, I'm normal.

Whether its generally accepted or not, forums of all diversity exist and its simply another form of communication.

If its all you ever do at the expense of social activity/work etc then you have a problem.

I generally trawl the web a few hours in the day (less now with my new busier job) and I don't see a problem with it.

Its only as bad as watching eastenders in my opinion

merlin, I'm comparing your stats to mine, your listed as a senior member with 752 posts..hmm.....

well, what can I say...:D

But that's the point to me Gary. You see either that three hours comes out of the time your employer is paying you to work, or it comes from your leisure time (in which case that's a high percentage of your free time).

So you are either an idle bastard who robs his employer blind, self employed and unambitious, or a social recluse. As far as I can see, you have to be one of these if you spend 3 hours a day on forums.

I spend too much time on forums and I admit it. Sometimes I wish I didnt, but I have come to the conclusion I have an "addictive personality", that is to say, I seem to latch on to things, and become addicted. Forums are one such thing, an addiction born out of another addiction, my addiction to the internet.

I have many addictions. Listening to music, hifi, forums, porn, tossing off, trying to get laid, smoking dope, drinking, watching telly. Does that make me a social recluse? Dunno.

One things for sure. I am not normal by any stretch of the imagination, I'm mental :JOEL:

yeah, that kinda sums me up - dope (daily), music, hifi etc but luckily I've got a lass who is largely insaisable? thats not how you spell, but she's hormy anyway...:D

Merlin

I browse at work, but with the go ahead from my manager.
A lot of my job consists of long duration component testing, so between setting up test i have much spare time, sometimes not so but on the whole id be crawling up the walls without browsing.
I did spend much more of my social time browsing, it was a form of escapism for me at a bad time in my life. But that has been curtailed now, life moves on and i spend more time with my lovely woman, to who am am very grateful for putting up with me when times werent so good.

Regarding hifi, it does occupy much of my thinking time, mainly im trying to work a way to get the things i would like but cant afford , again i consider myself very lucky, as Mrs Penance enjoys a good sounding system aswell and so puts up with my ramblings. Though i feel it may wear thin soon if i dont STFU

I'm not normal and don't aspire to be.

I don't spend much time here either at the moment, not because I think I should be doing anything else though, and not because I think there is any harm in it.

Basically if you're happy and not hurting anybody, then where's the harm? It's better than getting drunk and brawling in the street, and we get to meet some interesting people too, including you Merlin. :)

Cheers

I dont do the dope daily any more for health reasons (in fact I completely fucked my head up on it, but I wont dwell on that), but if you ever get bored with your lass, by all means, I wont throw her outta bed for eating a pack of crisps ;)

Smak addicts are happy Timpy, provided they've got enough gear. And they aren't hurting anyone but themselves, still doesn't make it healthy though does it?

Anyone who claims they have the web on in the background at work is not only odd but delusional as well. Since when has it been possible to be on line and for it not to affect your work. Come on, honesty here please!

So what we have here is a group of people who spend time on the internet and listening to music, both of which are distinctly solitary persuits IMO. Following on, is it not possible that this enforced social solitude is in someways damaging.

When we get old, do you think we will regret spending so long infront of speakers and PC's instead of visiting places of interest and social events. Maybe WM can help us with that one? Tone, how did you feel?
