    Hi,

I was flicking through the good old (new) Argos catalogue today, and found these...

    http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/s...001&langId=-1&catalogId=2501&productId=110826

I would guess that they are about 15mm thick, scaling from the photo. 300mm x 400mm (very convenient) and at only £12.99 each, I reckon they're a bargain!!!

Get down to the store before they're bought up for stylish kitchens, and put them where they belong- beneath your hifi!!!! :D

I noticed that myself, they also have coasters which may go beneath smaller kit or speakers, £12.99 for 2 with s smaller coasers.

How does granite 'isolate', I ask myself. Nice chopping boards tho'.

erm, it's heavy, solid, doesn't ring much if you tap it?!?!? :D

Perhaps it would be more appropriate if one said that it 'assists' in isolation of hifi components due to high mass and rigidity(!).

Excellent! :D For that money I'm gonna grab myself a few to experiment with. Already got some granite slabs underneath my speakers, so I'll use these for equipment damping, should like a lot more attractive than Argos catalogues placed on top the kit - yes no kiding that's really what I'm currently using. ;)

I'm sure they probably do, but those out of town places are a pain the butt to get to when you don't have ready access to private transportation. :)

Even better, do what I did and nip down to your nearest Spoils or seconds shop. I got a slab just like that (another chopping board) for a fiver a few years ago.

 True. Thanks for the tip. Better get some before they go up in price. By the way, if you use it as a board to cut the veg on don't they make your knives blunt quickly?

Nice, may buy 2 of those tomorrow to replace the MDF plinths on my rack (however at 30cm deep, its slightly lacking in depth - my amp is about 33cm deep :()

Oh crap - so they're still too wussy for the mighties that are my Epos ES14 stands...

Oh well - 2 Mana soundbases it is then (will be ordering SOMETHING along these lines, or home-demming Dyn Audience 42s very soon, as the bass in the new room is still not quite right (but getting there!)).

Alternatively I'll just get a supermegafuggin' powerful power amp and bung the ES14s off of that...

When Russ Andrews start selling these with his Oak Cone Feet, these slabs will qualify as Hi-Fi Isolation Platforms, 'worth' at least £299.99p each.

Maybe someone should buy some up, and then flog them on ebay as dedicated audio stands. I think theres a fairly good chance one could make a profit on those ;)

Well, if it was supported on four tuned spikes, then possibly. I doubt if it would ring in the same way as glass, but you would have to try it out. Good luck!

    Two questions!

    1. Do you still use the spikes with it?
    2. Do they work with components fitted with soft feet such as sobathene?

    Thanks :)

Too late to make a bid, its gone for £16.

    The description is imaginative,

    'Non vibrational slip resistant feet
Full grained flawless quality granite containing quartz, orthoclase feldspar and biotite mica for optimum vibrational resistance
Perfect horizontal machined CNC surface spirit-level tested for accuracy'

the only thing he forgot to mention was that it is dishwasher safe :D

I'm amazed how he'll post it for just £5.50! Mine weighs a hell of a lot.

I only use it propped up behind the little square habitat table my hifi sits on to hide the cables.
