Got home late from working today, fired up the turntable, and for some reason it's running audibly slow. Probably the belt needs replacing, I would guess, but typically, I can't find the spare I had somewhere for just this eventuality.

    Arse, basically.

Just needed to get that off my chest.

that's what happens when you use technology from the previous millenium. c'mon ian time you joined the noughties. seriously though it's a bitch when something frustrating like that happens. have a look down the back of the fridge, that's where all lost things end up.
    cheers

That reminds me, I'm still running with the original belt that came with my Orbe, it's been in use for well over 5 years. About time I changed it I guess..! How much do Michell charge for a new one?

Can't remember, but it isn't much. Check the bearing oil level while you're at it...

What, like CD and MP3??? :)

Henry - get on with it - your Orbe's BEGGING for a new belt. I really need TWO new ones on both my Regas, and they're only a max of 15 months old!

BTW - any joy on that Mescalator EP 12inch? It's defo not in my collection at the moment, so hope it's at yours or I'm screwed :( At least I've got the new Infected Mushroom 12inch on white lable in the post ;)

Is the belt actually slipping on the motor spindle? I've never seen a belt drive deck with a belt so knackered that it wouldn't keep to speed with a gentle nudge on start-up unless it was seriously dirty. As a temporary measure it would be worth washing the belt (just wash it up with the dishes) and giving the motor pulley a clean with a cotton bud and some isopropyl alcohol or equivalent should get it back spinning at the right speed. To be honest I suspect it is more likely to be the servo or something like that as once a deck is at speed almost any old belt will hold it there. It might be worth unplugging / replugging the little connector thingy from the PSU to the motor just to make sure its making a good connection.

New belts is apparently something that Nottingham Analogue users simply don't do, we just move the motor a bit further away!

    Tony.

It may be the motor, I guess. Haven't had time to investigate with any thoroughness, will have a proper look later tonight. Might strip the whole thing down and have a proper look, it's been un-farted with for nearly 3 years now.

    Arse. Again.

Well, a belt clean, spindle degunk, general strip down and rebuild has made bugger all difference. The belt isn't slipping, so I think mechanically everything's OK. Michell are sending me some replacement bits (belt, thrust ball), if changing those doesn't doesn't fix it it'll be time to borrow a known-good motor assembly.

    Arse. Once more.

Soak it in parrafin over night, and scrub it with a wire brush in the morning, or is that crank shafts:confused:
    Failing that, shout ARSE!

Replacement thrust ball, belt, and oil arrived today. Problem solved, though I'm not sure what the fix was, decided to change all of it in one go. No more shouting ARSE for the time being.

Cost came to a grand total of £15.

    Phew.

Perhaps it was the ARSE shouting that solved the problem?
