As the title says. I have the option to buy a 2nd hand pair with heavyweight stands.I hope to have an audition over the weekend they will be used with my upgraded Minger. At the moment I am using Rega Ela1.5's but I am gradually trying to move away from my Naim "flat earthish" roots.Other options are maybe Harbeth Compact 7's.

audionote consistently have some of the better sounding rooms at most shows so i'd say they should please if you like that kind of thing.

..but very different to harbeth. Chalk and Cheese I would say.

need to hear both if you can.

harbeth looks on paper to be a worse match for a valve amp - reality may be different.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.I am looking to spend up to £600 2nd hand, and they must work reasonably close to the rear wall (max two feet out).I am looking for a detailed &natural musical sound or am I asking too much

as already said, despends upon your personal preferences. I have liked them everytime I've heard them, but then I own horns.

Muzzer J's are ace - go for it!!

I ended up with e's but seriously considered the J's my e's worked well with a minger similar to yours.

Not sure about the positioning - but the harberths need some air behiond them whereas AN's tend to sit closer to the wall and use the bass reinforncement

if you got the chance to try before buying then should be fine - Audionote presentation is different to yer average boxes though so a bit marmite - I love my E's but I can see why others don't

    Hey up Darren.
    Fancy meeting you over here.
As an ex Naimee yourself the Audionote recommendation seems sound. must pop in sometime to hear your system. I think I have a bit of bartering to do but hopefully can sort a demo out at the weekend.
As for Harbeths and valves ,doesn't Tony L use them with his Prima?

    Hi Andy

He does indeed, but they are a good 4 feet into the room and thus perhaps not what you are looking for - very neutral detailed and yet musical sound, a little crisp in the treble but most people like that - sound very good in Tonys system - quite different to the E's though.

J's work very well with the OTO SE which might be somewhere to move to if you ever decide to change the minger - AN gear does seem work/gel well as a system.

you are welcome to pop round whenever you like to have a listen, changed quite a bit since you were last here.

    Rgds

I have a pair of Impulse Ta'us, which are the newer versions of the H2s, as run by RobH and MartinC on PF.

The J's look like being scratched off the audition list, the wife had a look at some photos the seller emailed me and she is not impressed, main problem is the stands, MAF ones which I admit do look industrial to say the least.Another alternative I have been pondering on is building the WAD standmounter kit and putting them on some nice stands if there is such a thing.

Muzzer , is the minger a Ming Da ? .

If so I have the Icon equivalent and use SF concertino's ,
very round earth , front ported ( I have mine 15" from rear wall )
and often pop up on eBay for about £ 400 ( used )

Heard these at the Scottish Hi-Fi show about 3 years ago. They were suffed into a corner in a fairly pokey little room and sounded fantastic, easily the best sounding system to my ears at the show.
Partnering equipment (iirc) was an Audionote TT2 and arm coupled to an Audionote valve amp, not sure of the model # but it cost about £3.5K. I only listened to the vinyl demo but could have happily sat there all afternoon listening to it...
