I own Avalon Arcus speakers that are driven by an Audio Research (ARC) power amplifier D-130. The pre is the ARC LS 8 and the source is the ARC CD 3.

I am willing to upgrade my system without changing my speakers. I had already some try-outs without success.

So I think the best improvement might be the swap of the power amp.

I tried out the ARC VS-110 at home and the sound dramatically improved. However, as this swap is rather expensive, I would like to know some alternatives.

    Hi Zeroguy,

How much do you want to spend? The VS 110 costs £4000 new. I have seen it going for under £3000 from a few dealers (2nd hand/Ex Dem). The Vs 110 is a very good power amp other older Audio Reasearch amp may suit.

Also look at Conrad Johnson stuff. The importer of the Avalons uses thes amps with those speakers. Some of their 2nd hand stuff may suit.
