Well I dont often post these days, but I did feel this one was worthy of a thread. I did do a quick search so I dont "think" this is a repost....

It looks like the RIAA, the scumbags that they are, have blown the proverbial whistle with pandora, who are now going to actively block the broadcast of music to anywhere presumably outside the goold old US of A.....

Apparently, all listeners outside the US (as identified by their IP address) have received an e-mail from Pandora's founder informing them that Pandora will be unavailable to them as from ... yesterday.
My son listens from his computer and got the message, but I listen through the Squeezebox (Squeezenetwork) and did not get it. And I am listening to Pandora right now. Wait and see.
What is unclear in Pandora's communication is that they apparently are getting nowhere in terms of agreements on a country-to-country basis, with the notable exception of the UK. Does that mean that service will be maintained for you lucky guys?
And workarounds are already flourishing on the Internet (use of proxies and such).
I'm off for an extended week-end and will see what the situation is when I return on tuesday.

It doesn't matter because they're all rubbish. Viva my record (and CD, and FLAC and K7) collection.

I beg to differ. Those precious CD/records in your collection, surely you have heard them somewhere before you purchased them? Wherever that was, that's what people like Pandora do for you now. I discovered tons of new music lately, and my CD collection has grown accordingly. As for quality, it's as good as music heard out of a car radio (without the talking), let alone a K7.

I didn't get an email from Pandora but clicking on the site yesterday brought up their "Sorry we have had to withdraw service..." letter instead of the usual menu. :(

Looks like it's the licensing/MRO organisations in other countries - NOT U.S. - that are the stumbling blocks. Pandora hasn't been able to acquire rights for a number of territories yet. Either way, a bummer.

Squeezebox users still get Pandora wherever they are by connecting to the slimserver on the net.It is a browse-to option on the SB called "Squeezenetwork", so long as one has preconfigured one's accounts to Pandora, etc.
