These Guys built a custom one for a mate some years ago which was superb - might be worth a mail.

BTW. Do you have balanced outputs from your Brinkmann?

No but my new dac has a built in volume control and has balanced outputs - hence the switch will be replacing my pre. I will have to use converter plugs and add a vol pot to the phono unless I can find a phono with a volume control built in and balanced i/o. In the longer term the brinkmann will go balanced.

    Many thanks!

I contacted them but 7k just for a switch is outrageous! I was thinking two orders of magnitude less.

I made one recently as a speaker switchbox - basically the same thing, selecting two pairs of wires through relays. Obviously for speaker level you need much heftier relays. I can give you the gerber files and bill of materials if you're interested. It simply works off a 12V wall wart (only powers the relay coils - there's no active audio circuitry) and even has a wired remote. Parts cost will come in £40-£50 + PCB, depending on what chassis and socketry you use.

Nick will probably build one for you if you pay him. Tell him Chris sent you, and he'll probably do it.

.. and you can pick swanky parts from the site if you like.

Yes the cdp has a digital volume control - however its a 24 bit dac and cds are only 16 bit so it should be ok.

Will try out the other suggestions.
