    Belcanto Evo 4

Anybody else listen to one of these?

having heard an Evo200.2 about 1 yr ago I was less than impressed
quite suprised after an afternoon with one how much better the Evo 4 was.......I,m not a Bass junkie but even listening to my less "full on " musical taste detail and timeing really stood out kinda reminded me of the sim I5 but
    with huge balls.......

would this be what is often decribed,or refurd too as " good head room"
I believe the amp was in "Bridged mode" I,m not a techie but sounded damm fine in whatever the "mode" was.

The eVo 4 is the same as the 200.4 except for the front panel. The difference, compared to the 200.2, is that the 4 has two amp boards instead of one, and a 1400VA transformer rather than a 538VA. It is this extra psu headroom that makes the differnce. If you run a 4 in bridged mode, it's pretty awesome, as anyone who has heard WM's system will attest.

I know of something better though. ;)

    Not bad WM :D

But yes, if you decide to go for a BC, it does sound vastly better when bridged at which point it is very good value for money.

It's the word "awesome" that's getting stuck ;)

That depends on your point of reference merlin. You're lucky enough to have kit that means the bel canto is decidedly ordinary to you, but that's not the case for the majority.

Awesome should be reserved for something turely amazing Like Hermann's stack of mana.
And as Iaasc has pointed out elsewhere tonite, the PWM switching amps have moved on, even do stereo now I'm lead to believe :D
The Newer gen II's are better, but still need work to bring them up to speed, I would like to point out though, WM 's evo is not stock  surprised at Kev he thought it was a 2I? I mean they are silver not black?
the 1200va stock tranny is Audio va not rms which is nearer 720Va, nice eh?
Anyway, you ought to give the Spectron a go as well, more balls again about the same dosh, and more open and cleaner at the top, plus an option for a direct digital feed too.

My comments were not meant in an elitist fashion Isaac so sorry if they came across that way.

What I meant was that at £4K new, there are many alternatives that many forum members may prefer, and that the Evo is increasingly seeming to be somewhat expensive as the cost of switching units comes down. Don't get me wrong, it is an impressive amp, but even WM has moved onto Spectral and his own monos.

There isn't a better 3 channel amp Antonio IMO, which is why I recommended it to you.

There are I think two channel amps and monoblocks though that many people will prefer.

    Indeed there is competition.

I would also expect that any amp costing £4k should be worthy of being described as "awesome", otherwise it wouldn't be worth £4k really... My car cost that much.

Switching amps are indeed coming on...

As far as I am aware merlin still has the JBLs and very good they sound too. These things really do produce awesome bass quality on the end of a good switching amp.
