Other than that, it's nice to be back.

I've come to the conclusion that I have a very good stereo and the sound satisfies. However I could do with some advice on cables, equipment stands, power and funny cones of wood with Japanese names that sit on top of the speakers. Also, ferrite rings sound iteresting, or perhaps a dedicated spur. Inflatable plastic bags and semi squash balls, perhaps with £20 a pop Nordost metal coney things and a dash of cyrogenic-bi-directional lobster-green felt tip pen.

As you may know, I know very little indeed about hi-fi having led a sheltered life within a monastery for the most part.

Here's my experience, others' will vary:

Dedicated spur made a big improvement to my gear, relatively cheap and I had it done while the floor was up for another reason. I don't know what gear you use, mine's mostly Naim which is well-known to like this sort of treatment.

Interconnect cabling can bring some improvements also, although Naim recommend using their own they can be improved upon. Try to avoid being fleeced. A difference may not necessarily be an improvement.

Mains leads, well I'm using MusicWorks leads (which I was given) on the premise that they sound better than the standard Naim items. I'm not too sure that this is true, but they are certainly not worse to my ears, so I've left them be.

Stands: Mana. The biggest upgrade ever in my system, and I'd rather downgrade a box or two rather than lose the Mana. Details of what I think it does are in the hi-fi room on the Mana Forum in the recent thread called 'Mana Effect?' (I think). There are also numerous reviews on the main Mana website. It is very sensitive to poor set-up, and it helps if you know someone who is familiar with using it. It's also great for starting internet wars for some reason.

Nordost anythings seem to make the hi-fi sound 'thin' and 'etched' and 'edgy' which is great fun if you like that sort of thing.

The above are all opinions and nothing more.

Anyway, my clobber is mainly ATC with a bit of Rotel for a transport and Tag (the one, the only) DAC 20 as a .....erm....DAC. The cables are decent enough, the power I don't give a flying fig. But should I?

I like thrash metal and acid Jazz

Life's too short. In your line of busienss, I guess that is the way it is.

However, "the devil" is not the Blezibub I used to know, nor is Anarchy etc - the hey-day of hi-fi fora when things were controvesial and interesting.

I'm here because the mother in law has come to stay. Other than that I am very happy with my stereo. It is the best I have heard, bar none. And I'm sure that yours is too.

I believe that this place is one of the few forums you haven't been banned from - and you're not the only one here in that position :D That might have something to do with your mellowing out. Whatever the reason, I prefer the mellowed out bub to the confrontational one :)

Yes, that's an achievement.

It wasn't free advertising, just very, very cheap. It brought about 100 visitors a day to the web site so it was good while it lasted.

Penance, what's LMAO? (don't tell me if I really don't want to know).
 
The problem with banning the Devil is he then metamorphoses into something worse; in many ways the antithesis of nature's miracle of turning a squishy bug into a Red Admiral.

Mind you, I really fancied that Samantha Jones.

Well, if there was ever a reason for sticking to speakers ....

Of course another good reason is that I know sod all about amp design.
