I've got a Michell Gyrodec which is slowly gathering tiny (dust-sized) bits of rubber on the motor. It looks like the belt is abrading on the spindle. There's no way to move the motor - it's an older model Gyrodec with the motor embedded into the case.

Is this normal? Or is it something I should worry about? Any ideas how I can fix it?

    Don't think it's normal..
How old is your belt, and does it run parallel from the platter grooves to the pulley or at an angle?
The pulley can be raised or lowered a little if you losen the grub screw that holds it.

Stating the obvious but change the belt. However it has got to that stage it shouldn't be on your deck anymore

look to see if you have the suspension set to high, so the belt is leaving the pulley at an angle.
