We (Titian, Robbo, SideshowBob and me) will be at the show tomorrow.

Any one fancy meeting up ? Maybe around 1:30pm. We could all invade Tony's room!

    Hi,

I have decided to attend on Saturday, so I can meet up with you all. I've sorted out a few cds to play in Big Tones room.

I understand he will be using a gramophone player & some vacuum-thermionic amplification devices. I'll bring some easy listening long playing vinyl records and my pipe & slippers. :D

see you all there too. i thought there was going to be a meet up in the bar at 2pm... rather than all try to crowd into tony's room and drive away the paying customers.
    cheers

How about in the bar and then in Tony's room, to drive away all the paying customers? :D

Bar at 2:00 is fine. But I still want to get Tony to play some Norah J, and then Jamie Cullum and then some rockin' Eva Cassidy. That Melua looks good.

Well, can't be any worse than todays musical programme :D Humm Jazz at the pornshop, right on kats :D Oh, you guys might be in for shock when the deck gets put on too :)
Strange things happened today, the press came to see US & Paul Darwin shook my hand  :) , had a good first day, enjoyed it alot, Steve 7V looked like a pet monkey on speed, he enjoyed himself too.
Iaasc too has been in the think of things & Graham @ Trichord for his timey assistance is sorting out the Spacedeck.
The Stein hearts are pretty fair amps too
The 7V CDP has now has an Algorythym for serious plinque, I'll need to shock it when it returns home
Merlin too swung by and abused us (again)
Good to Meet Craig (Lamboy again) & all the people that visited Chez 'Plinque' shaping up to be a cracking event
Thanks also to Rejoyce :) Cheers Jason

I had a headache for most of the afternoon. Something to do with repeatedly playing the pod race sequence from episode 1 at high volume I think. Still, it drew the crowds...

The hotel bar will be truly PACKED at 1:30-2:00, but I'll drop by and say hi if I can get away. Otherwise, drop by one of our stands (I'll be at one or the other, or in between, or skiving off somewhere :D ) and say hi if you're so inclined.

Dont know if I can face driving to Bristol and back twice on 2 days.... I'll chew it over tonight... if not, have a brilliant time everyone, and hope everyone their from ZG in a work capacity sells absolutely shit-loads.

Twaddle Sir! It was only the thought of the two of you in a photo together, I though the system was sounding very enjoyable when asked to play what it was designed for.

Only surprises for me were just how good the Exposure/Vandersteen room was, and just what Tact could achieve with a Denon 2900.

Got me some nice new music though:)

    Well, it happened...

From memory, and apologies if I forget anyone, but the following suspects appeared:

    Lilolee
    Titian
    Sideshowbob
    SCIDB
    WM
    Julian2002
    penance
    Robbo
    HenryT
    Technobear

Appearances also made at some points during the day by

    Timpy
    Sgt Rock
7_V (of course.... it was Steve's room we were hanging out in after hours...)

Titian, 7_V, technobear and penance were the new faces for me. Good to meet, chat, take the piss out of B&W's setup, etc...

Hi Chaps! Well that was a fun day out. Good to put some more faces to names and see some familiar ones again :)
Isaac, you missed 'nsherin'. Bumped into him in the Seventh Veil room.

The show was a bit of a mixed bag. Very few really good sounding rooms.

7_V's system was sounding good, once the plinquifier was removed from the CD player. Lots of potential there. That big Wadia beast is a nice CD player. Way beyond my budget though.

The Exposure/Vandersteen room was sounding pretty good, grooving along nicely. Looks good too.

PMC managed to get some good sounds out of the OB1 with Bryston electronics but the surround sound was distracting.

The Living Voice Avatar OBX-R2s sounded good (but don't they always).

The new Dynaudio Contour 1.4S with Naim electronics left me underwhelmed. The bass was not as tight as it should be.

WA Speakers, hewn out of solid limestone if you please, showed promise. Shame they were demonstrating with a truly awful Cambridge Audio CD player.

Had a long listen to the Naim CD5i + Nait 5 + Arriva. What is it about Naim speakers? I'd be interested to hear the CD5i with my amp and speakers but I don't feel confident that it could see off the Arcam. As a system, this one had too many rough edges to be truly enjoyable. Incidently I heard nothing at the show to convince me that Naim has any greater command of rhythm and timing than Arcam does.

I heard several demos using the Arcam FMJ CD33 CD player and was impressed by all of them. By far the best (and easily the best sound per pound of the whole show for me) was the Audiovector room. If I was looking for a £4k - £5k system right now, Arcam and Audiovector would have had me reaching for my credit card today. And that is the only system at the show that would have done so.

So what did I get out of the show?

I reaffirmed my dislike of surround sound. OK for movies. Very bad for music.

I confirmed that I have a great system. This show has not set me wondering about the quality of my kit. It is great.

And I may have identified the eventual replacement for the Alpha 9. Whether it will be good enough to be worth changing for or whether I shall just wait for the Alpha 9 to wear out first is another matter.

Firstly, a big thanks due! A superb effort from 7_V and Tony in the Seventh Veil Room! The system sounded superb and both Tony and Steve? made me most welcome! I would have stayed longer if I'd not left my coat downstairs - the problem being not able to get back upstairs again.

Good to put a name to the face, Technobear. I regonised some of you from a trip to the bar earlier when some of you guys appeared upstairs later on. I thought I'd be able to figure out who you guys were earlier on, just by looking for TB's badge :)

Loved the new Mission speakers - they complemented the Arcam kit very well, but less impressive with Naim - too screechy and almost distorted for my liking - to the extent that it almost put me off Naim Kit.

The Ruark / Naim combination had real synergy and if I was in the market for kit at that price, it would be a setup I'd seriously consider. Naim seems to be one of those items that needs careful matching, from what I saw today.

Rega had an excellent showing of TTs, as did Wilson Bensch and Michel Engineering.

The Roksan Xerve with Vienna Speakers and Audia Flight Kit sounded superb - a lovely vinyl rig there :)

B & W was definately a downside for me - a great pity as they've got a good raft of kit, along with Rotel. Not really sure what to make of it.

Meridien's demo was interesting to see - and the kit certainly looks the part with some good features, but sounded too 'digital' for my liking, unfortunately. I noticed they touted 'video upsampling' - nothing new now, as Yamaha have included this in their DSP-Z9 receiver.

Agree with Technobear re: Dynaudio / Naim - very very dissapointing - I was expecting much better bass. I think it confirms my theory of careful matching of speakers with Naim!

Arcam seemd to feature in quite a few demos and again, if the cash was there, I think that would be the next logical step/direction for me!
