Please do not shoot me down in flames, I really do not know :(

On my new pre amp there is only 3 inputs, 2 RCA and 1 balanced.

I however need 3 RCA inputs

Is it possible to connect an RCA interconnect conection to a balanced input by means of a converter or something ?

Yes it is. Connect the outer pole of the RCA (ie the screen) to XLR pin 1, and centre pole of the RCA to pin 2.

It is quite unlikely that the XLR on this pre is in fact balanced. If this is the case, a simple XLR --> RCA adaptor will suffice. If not, then do as Isaac suggests.

Most "balanced" connections simply use a differential input amplifier on the opposite polarity signals of the XLR to generate a single-ended signal that is used internally. That sum is simply X1-X2 = Y where X1 is +ve balanced input, X2 is -ve balanced input and Y is the single-ended signal. In order to feed a single ended signal in, you feed it into X1, X2 is 0 (you might need to ground it in some cases) and X1 - 0 = X1. That's the theory behind it.

However, realising that your pre is actually a transformer based amp, it is possible that things aren't quite as simple. What I've suggested should work for an active preamp, but it depends on how the transformers have been set up in this case.

hi,the balance inputs are bridged to the rca's there for it can be used as an aux, and adaptors for covertion of rca to xlr are very much available, try LAT, regards nando.
