    Hi Mike,

Nice! I remember the Goldring Brier well from the 80s. It would be interesting to try one.

I thought you'd remember that one. The Goldbug, Koetsu Black and Red, and the various Kiseki were drool worthy back then for a mere Asak owner.

Now let's see how you get on with this - a good reason to have detatchable headshells if ever I saw one!

    Hi Mike,

I see at least a couple of Denon 103 cartridges, more Kisekis I have ever seen in one place, a Decca Jubilee, some EMTs, an Ortofon SPU, an Audio Technica plus others that I can't see cleary enough. Nice collection.

    Hi Mike,

Nice. Knew I had seen the Mission 773 cartridge before but could remember the name of it. Shinnon is a name I have forgotten about. How could I have missed the Fidelity Research cartridges?

Would be great to play around with that lot.

    Hi Mike,

I had a Goldbug Mrs Brier. The body was the best bit sadly. Internally it was a relatively cheap cartridge. The Shinon red was quite good though. Sadly I think Shinon finished some time ago.

The various Kiseki's were pretty particularly the Lapis Lazuli. They (the ones I heard anyway) always sounded more natural (and neutral) than the Koetsu's. This is a lovely collection though.

Gutted Murray! Ah but that body. Hand carved by an exotic woman from the East (Mr Golbug's Mrs if I remember correctly).

Yes a lovely collection indeed. And it has successfully convinced me to make sure my next arm has a detatchable headshell and east VTA adjustment. How on earth did they get by in those days without calibrated VTA adjustment?;)

Can anyone remember who made the Mission Cartridge?

Dean, I hear the Brinkmann/EMT is very tempramental but those My Sonic Labs carts are mighty tempting at the Japanese prices...

That EMT is interesting, it looks rather like one cartridge body bolted into another. Didn't it used to exist without the outer part that now carries the pins?

In the accompanying blurb to the Brier there was some wonderful nonsense about brave men risking life & limb climbing steep sided mountains to get to these very rare & particular trees & cut bits off them!

What amuses me about some of these cartridges is that there really isn't any difference in construction/craftsmanship between them and the better (mass produced) MC offerings of Goldring ie the Eroica could be the 47 Labs while the old Electro II LZ could be most of the others!

To continue the analogy, this one's a bit 'Readers Wives' in terms of photography, but a classy model nonetheless:
