I thought there was a bottle of fluid for £25 (4 litres I think) that can be used with the Disco Antistat on Audiophile Candy's website but I can't find it - anyone know what it's called or where a source of fluid that'll be cheaper than £15 for 1 litre is?

Henryt mentioned it but my sieve like brain's forgotten where it was...

Ouch - this record cleaning lark is more expensive than I thought.... I guess 5 litres will last freakin' ages though?

Is the Moth stuff suitable though - does it matter if it's for suction cleaners or do the solutions all have that wetting compound in them so that they'll drain off nicely?

If you search a bit on the internet you should be able to find some recipes to make it yourself. You'll have the same stuff that's in commercially available fluids. Except it's not in a fancy bottle and it can be made for about one tenth of the price!

Mostly consists of demineralized water, some alcohol and some other fluids.

I should think so, but I haven't tried it. They're all basically the same thing (alcohol, distilled water, and a detergent / wetting agent) so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Great in theory, but actually getting hold of some of the ingredients would seem to be quite hard in practice unless you happen to be good mates with a chemist e.g. where do I get a bulk load of 90% isopropyl (sp?) alcohol from?

Mind, you there was a fanaastic link Ian put up in the past (can't remember it off the top of my head), to a site with loads of DIY recording cleaning fluid receipes.

Yeah - I know it's pretty simple ingredients etc, but me having bad sight makes me very paranoid about this stuff as I'm pretty pants at handling clear liquids when measuring stuff up, so for piece of mind, I'd rather pay more and get something ready made - what a wuss hey!?

Cheers for the info guys - I'll check out that Hifi Accessories link later then :)

I made my own but must say that it doesn't seem to be as good as the "real authentic" disco antistat fluid - The disco stuff seems to reduce the static better - must be thier special secret ingredient:rolleyes:

Well, I've ordered the 35 quid bottle - just hope they get my email about the courier though 'cos I'm not going to walk miles out of my way to collect something that they won't deliver to work...

However, I need it either way - I tallied up my vinyl purchases (almost all second hand) since the infamous MVE haul on 5th July - I have 49 pieces, 2 of which are 12 inchers - blooming heck. Oh - and it ALL needs cleaning!

Thought that was why you were after fluid desperately, although I'm sure you were on about ordering some that week... how are you getting on with all that listening though? Got through most of it yet?

Really need to get one of these anti-stat machines myself, been meaning to for ages.
