Can anyone advise how I might fix a problem I have...?

I use a Revolver turntable, through a Musical Fidelity X-LP.

I have noticed, since changing my speakers (to rear-loaded horns) that there is a definite "hum" coming from them when I select the "aux" setting on my amp to play vinyl.

It's not horrendous, but it's there...:(

However, when I disconnect the pick-up earth wire from the rear of the XL-P, the hum vanishes...

    Any thoughts...?

    Dougie.

Try connecting the wire to your amp

I used to own an MF X-LPs. I had exactly the same problem. Lordsummit beat me to it though, i fixed my problem by attaching the earth/ground wire from my TT (LP12) directly to the earth connection on my amp- problem solved. If your amp doesn't have a seperate TT ground connection try attaching the wire to one of the Pre amps case screws...

    Thanks for the assistance guys...

...managed to rectify it - however, it wasn't the earthing wire.

I discovered that the small plug connecting the phono leads to the bottom of the tone-arm wasn't "pushed home" as much as it should have been.

Once this was done, hum disappeared.

I've never touched this plug since buying the deck, and it hasn't really moved much in the last year, so I can only guess that the new speakers were picking it up more for me to notice it.

    Thanks again.

Dunno what you had before, but if they are a fair bit more sensitive, it'll show with things like this up more I guess.

Castle Richmond II's - original 1970 guys with new drivers...

Certainly the Fostex full range speakers are far better and I'm hearing things now on older recordings that I never heard before...

No more enclosed boxes and cross-overs for me...:D

The only Castles I ever heard were my old Dad's Castle Severn's (Sadly purchased for his Christmas pressie - after months of hinting the old bugger popped his clogs on Christmas Eve  ) - I'm sure he'd have liked them though :) .
