I basically had an important clients old emails which I was retrieving . I was talking to my GF on MSN and told her what I was doing. She wanted a copy of them. I explained there is no way on earth I could do that due to laws and client confidentiality but now she thinks I don't trust her:(

What I am suppose dot in no win situations like this?

Hit her repeatedly with a large stick until all you can smell is shit!

It's situations like that which are totally engineered to be a no win for you that bring out the total misogynist in me!

    Grrrr.

Maybe it was more to do with how you said it to her than what it was you didn't give her. Like maybe she got the impression you were saying there was no way you would give them to her.

Even so she shouldn't ask for them. It sounds like she has no idea of what it is to be responsible. Has she only ever worked in jobs she didn’t really like, and didn’t care about the benefit and reputation of the business?

Talking about your GF is much more interesting than George Bush's watch!

    Agreed, esp the last point.

It sounds like YOU are acting correctly....I'd stick to your guns.

Dare I say it, if theres an isue over trust (an important popint surley) it begins before this e mail thing. I feel sure its just a communication glich.

Why would she be interested in them in the first place, unless perhaps you let slip a hint of what they might contain? Eh? Eh? 'Nudge wink'. Are they really that interesting? Hey, I want a copy too!

    (;) )

Alternative and time honoured approach.........go on the attack.

Why don't you trust me? Why have you got a problem with me doing my job? etc.

yeah, it's obviously about trust...she wants to know that you've nothing to hide...and by saying no to her request then she'll that that you do have something to hide....

it's always a tricky situation imo...!

    not necessarily.

i'm surprised the gf has these insecurities......AT maybe forgettfuil....thats sounds the worst of it (??)(only you know THAT AT!)

I feel sure that just talking to her reasoanably about it should be half the battle.

I've always been far from impressed with games of "attack" or whatever.

She wants the same job as my client has. Also yes she has never had a full time job, well a proper one. I am sure when she is working for the NHS she will not be sharing patients notes with me :D

This is about the most sensible answer you can give her. Client's confidentiality should be of paramount importance. Mind you, I'm curious about a couple of things.

    1) How did she know about the emails in the first place.
    2) Why do keep on putting yourself in such situations. Do you not feel inclined to learn from your past experiences?

    1) She asked me what I was doing, I said I was retrieving some old emails for a client.

    2) You would think so but I thought she would never ask me because it would put me in an unfair position.

She sounds like a right drama queen. Tell her to sling her hook.
