Gents, anyone live in London that could help me out with some mods to my pre amp ?

Just basic mods, I would like to convert one of the outputs, and add another pre out socket.

Can pay in either beer and pizza or coffee and biscuits

if you get stuck I can ..ease you through but not in person

The pre out is easy just unless you need to switch it in and out...just parrellel the output from the board to the existing pre out.

I assume you want to convert from riaa to gain another analogue input ?

Thats kind of what I thought in relation to the pre out, but was not 100% sure.

riaa ??? you have lost me there.

My pre amp currently has two phono and one DIN inputs.

I was thinking to convert the DIN to phon, as none of my sources, power amps have DIN.

I will take some pictures tonight, and try and construct a more comprehensive want I want to do.

    thats very straight forward ....

drill two holes for the rca sockets ....

imagine the back of the din plug as a smile so to the top right will be channel 1 , the next will be channel 2 and the bottom pin ground.

as to which is left and right the normal config is ch1 left ch2 right. these two wires go to the appropriate centre pins on the rca sockets ...the ground connection goes to both ground connections of the sockets.

[I may have the smile the wrong way round ! as I can't find my pics....but the pin connections will be the same ] if the din socket has all pins connected we need to reconsider as it could be part of a tape loop.

There may be resistor changes you might need to do to but generally this should work just fine depending o the impeadance

just had some pics from chris.....the connections are xlr rather than din ....so the pre is expecting to see a balanced input on these.

I'm not familiar with the pre does anyone know if the unit will be happy to have the -ve sig grounded to earth to emmulate an unbalanced input ?

Pete - just caught this thread the DIN threw me - this is I think my Bent silver - all he needs to do is to get a pair of XLR to phon adapters - infact conveyed this - ????? My advice - LEAVE ALONE!

which was what I was going to say ....

its relatively simple to build a y adaptor to split the output but alot depends on if it needs to be switchable.

do you think a set of xlr to rca [grounding pins 1 and 3] will be effective ?

Gents, yes it is the Bent Silver TAP.

I tried a couple of electrical shops, inc Maplins, and they all said I could not do convert that socket to a phono, granted no one gave me solid reason.

This is why I thught I was going to have to modify it ???

Hi - Get a set of XLR to phono adaptors - will cost a few quid and will work perfectly and Maplins sell them. Dont mess around with John Chapmans internal solid silver wiring! Hope you're still liking this terrific preamp! Cheers :)

I was not planning to **** it ! this is why I am asking for help !

Yes it is superb, not planning to get rid of it. My uncle wants to buy it off me !

I am planning to buy some 240 volt to 9 volt transformers to get rid of the 'lets fall out of the transformer again' transformers that came with it ! Drives my fucking bananas !

Actually Pete - you are quite right,in an ideal setup you should get the best - and the best I have used are neutrik silver audio synthesis adaptors but they are not cheap - Chris I'd take up Zanash's offer of making you some.:)

Had a long chat with chris ...he's going to try losing the cheap adaptor and run with daisy chained power amps ...well see what happens
