Sorry if the title seems a little bit sexist, I guess this applies vice versa for women as well if they are hifi buffs.

One o my biggest dreads is that if I get married my wife will tell me to get rid of my 'large old fashioned hifi system' and replace it with some crap from a certain large high street store that used to be a camara shop.

As anybody ever fallen out with their girl/boy freinds over HIFI? And if you have to choose what would it be?

errr... just because you get married doesn't mean you have to obey your wife's every command. Surely the woman you plan to marry will respect your hobbies and interests??!! If not marriage may not be such a good idea...
When I bought my first proper hifi all my wife requested was that it didn't look too mismatched, which gave me an excuse to blow the budget... compromise you see!

I would say anyone that would deny your passion in life is not to be married.

    Simple really.

Would you care to describe a preverted turntable for those less experienced in these matters?

    It's a turntable before it's postverted, i.e., painted green.

Alles klar. Does the standard green-pen work for this, or do you need a special (e.g. RIAA-corrected) one for turntables?

Again, you boys (the invisable squad) jump to misindiginious conclutions

    Ian posted

    "IME chicks like turntables"

I replied with "only preveted ones do" Meaning.....

Women of a very loose moral and sexual fibre, would be attracted to TT due to their very nature, hope that helps, Tone in a very P.C. Mode at the mo.

Ah, but that's the whole point...you didn't! "Well Preverted ones anyway..." left the door wide open for wilful misinterpretation. Big difference by not doing the do ;) .

Now where's my OED? - 'misindiginious' sounds as if it could be useful some time...not sure when though :) .

Graham, this might come as shock, But the last time I used the OED was back in the annals of time so I just 'manipulate' the odd word or 2  It's more fun, saves the dryiness that can infest these forums.
But I was just be Tone :)

Ian's right - every female mate (not lucky enough for a "bird"!) who's seen my system goes "ooh, you've got a record player/turntable - are you a DJ?" and then you have to explain that you listen to records, not scratch them, and then the women will go either "urm OK, what's wrong with CDs?" or "it's too much hassle for me but that's pretty cool".

I actually know 3 women who like the look of Epos ES14 speakers on their stands (IN WALNUT!!!) - and the women are all fine - so women who like hifi (and don't mind the looks of it) do exist....

The funniest one was my old car share driver - she was delivering a futon to mine and she said "cool - I can see this system you keep on about". She was pretty damn impressed with it (even though at the time it was way more feeble than even what i have now :() and then she asked "where's the CDs?" - I pointed out that she had her back to them, and she turned round to see the 6 foot high by 4 foot wide shelving and nearly died of shock :) Well, I guess you had to be there but it made me laugh!

Dom if you are always telling women about your hifi its little wonder you don't have a 'bird'

Nah - most of them find out thru my musical excesses Gary - she found out about the hifi due to the ammount of times I got her to drop me off in town to buy MD decks, cartridges etc from Richers/Audio-t on the way home from work :)
