I want to add a socket for my HIFI but not on a dedicated spur, I just want to take a spur from my exisitng socket to my HIFI.

There are two pairs of wires going into the Neutral and Live ternimals on my socket. (It was a single I converted to double). However is two the maximum number of cables you can have going into one terminal? If I put three cables into each ternimal will that be too much and may cause over heating?

Youll be fine with 3 in the terminal. I assume it is a socket on a ring circuit, hence the 2 cables.
Just take another 2.5T&E from the existing socket to the new one

no need to take the skirting board off(unless you realy want too)with a bit of care its very easy chase out the plaster behind the skirting board.
