    answers on a postcard!

...and is volume relevant? - or is it just music going through that does it?

    cheers

Its the amount of voltage and current thats does (if you have a 250v cap and your only whacking 40 or so volts through it at low currant it may take a while ), though cooking them first helps more than a bit. I'd say up to 3 weeks fairly constant use Chris

My Martin logan's took nearly 6 months, almost constant use.....4-5 hrs a day.

But that was the whole unit rather than just cross over components.

I don't suppose 'never' is an acceptable option..

    how will they change?

    (they are auricaps)

Initially treble is too much, and not enough bass.

Thats just after 2 days though.

Well, If I remeber correctly, after bright and in yer face, they dull off, bass goes soggy, and staging goes to pot, then it just seems dull for a few days, thats them at the bottom.
good news is its all up hill after that, bass firms up, the sound starts to open out, and detail comes back, maybe a week after that they are about 90%+ Chris

My Martin Logan's played lovely from the first time. I'll guess there is no good answer to the burn in question.

    Hi Guys,

Are the 200v Auricaps anygood for signal coupling duties in cdp's or amps?
I must admit I've never tried the Auricaps yet, I was thinking about trying them in my dac and if I like them I'd try some in the speakers too, what else is worth trying appart from V-caps :D I like the Multicap RTX's but the values are limited

    Leo,

200V caps are probably not a great idea to use a signal caps in an amp.
Mains voltage is 230V, and the reciprocal of this rms value is a lot higher. Generally, a 450V cap performing these duties is an absolute minimum. I go for some decent Solen/Audio-Note/V-Cap/M-Cap/Ansor 630V design, to be safe.

    Regards,

    Neil.

Solen decent really since when? sorry I think there pants. 686v (rms), minimum voltage I'd use is 800 vac.
    Have you tried Wondercaps Yellow?

Sorry guys, I actually meant for the signal DC blocking caps in the input stage of something like the ClassT amps etc.
Most of my non valve based amps and dacs mainly use BG N types, I've noticed some of the polypropylenes I've tried sound a bit slow in the bass compared to say the BG's so I wanted some idea's what else to try, my current favourites are Multicap RTX but the cap values are limited so the BG's was my alternative choice.
I use a much higher voltage rated coupling caps in my valve amps :)
I agree with Tone regarding Solen, they are sonic poison.

It's all a matter of personal taste. I quite like them myself, but there are better out there. Solens are relatively cheap though, so could be worth a try.

    Neil.

IMO Black gates only good for psu's period, Jensen's better (4 poles)
Though with the way the psu's I construct work, BG's arn't really an upgrade.
