There's a lot of people with no feedback bidding on that auction. Looks like he's helping himself out. That's way overpriced even for a pair of the 15ohm ones

There are only 2 zero rated bidders, one from Japan, the other from Hong Kong.....where they seem to pay anything to get their hands on nice LS3/5A's

The sellers feedback is excellent....I very much doubt any shill bidding going on here.

In the seventies my company financed Rogers and I was able to buy a pair of LS3/5A at trade price directly from the factory.

In the late eighties I lost interest in music, got bored with them and gave them to my son whilst I replaced them with a nice shiny Kenwood Midi stacking system.

    whoops :(

I noticed that auction and am surprised at £840 I saw a pair of the Kef piano black ltd editions go for about 1100 not so long ago.

Having said that these ones are in the first 1000 Rogers made and are probably "white belly" versions, mythical beasts that seem to fetch massive premiums.

    or something....

Perhaps though its just more ebay madness.

Having sold my 3/5as I pine for them somewhat, does anyone have any thoughts on the current crop of BBC style mini monitors like Spendors or Harbeths??? Better or worse than classic 3/5as?

Mine are amongst some of the last 15ohm made by Rogers and still white belly.

Look for them on eBay soon:D

What's "white belly", sir? Mine are 15 ohm and not a scrap of white to be seen.

Tenson - These have been discussed on the LS3/5a forum. Nice looking but don't sound as good.

Tones - If you carefully take the grill off, you may see a white discolouration ring on the surface of the B110 driver. This is the 'white belly'

If you want to sell them, it's a very, very good thing. Just remember to make sure they are listed on ebay HK & Singapore (if such a thing exists).

Get some for me while you're at it, please, Julian, my LS3/5A drivers are boringly black.

...and LS3/5a s are just plain boring. Yet another 'crap old speaker' cult.

This probably explains why you can't hear any differences with equipment, Tone. ;-)

As the man with the wooden leg said...

P.S. Tone can hear lots of differences in everything - 'tis I who apparently have the problem (well, other people see it as a problem, I regard it as a blessed release from the permanent tail-chasing called upgradeitis)

These are not clones by any stretch of the imagination. The drivers are "self manufactured" so fall automatically outside of LS3/5 tolerences and the bass has been "improved" to go down to 50hz... They also weigh 8kgs each, so I think we are possibly not talking classic BBC thin wall construction here. There is absolutely NO WAY these could possibly sound like LS3/5s.
I've heard a couple of other far eastern "improved" LS3/5 designs. They all have some things in common: they sound nothing like LS3/5s; they sound bad.

    Oops, 'tones', sorry.

Nice mids, but slow one-note bass.
