I rember a few years ago the pubs in Manchester seemed to have started a shirts and shows policies. However they realised that this didn't stop any trouble whats so ever and it just mean't they lost a business. It is now the opposite extreme where you can get anywhere dressed like anything, although some of the posher bars are expections.

There is one well known indie club in Manchester they always let far to many people in, that club got so crowded that didn't have a single spare centimetre between you and the next person. It was blatently breaking the law.

However as a result people have stopped going, the club is now only half full, where as the other indie clubs have seen a huge increase of customers but they still seem to know when to stop letting people in. 42's for example told my sister at 11:00 they can come in if they want but its one in one out, so you will be queing up for an hour at least.

I am not sure how unlicneced bouncers are allowed to work either, the ones at 42's are all licenced and you can see the difference, at most other places they not, some times the bouncers are nice, some times they are complete twats that look like they have escaped from Strangewaysl

Having loads of clubs also minimises trouble, becuase a lot of the people out to cause trouble tend to keep away from the indie/student places and they usualy don't get let in to them either.

The worrying fact is that the person in charge of the aforesaid nightspot on that night now has responsibility for a larger venue which is in receipt of public funding, and is still over-ruling doorstaff who try and do their job, be it in terms of crowd control or flushing out drug use/dealing on a fairly regular basis. It's only a matter of time...

Another city club has also recently been "done", as Dom puts it, for overcrowding. They didn't realise that their capacity was for the whole premises, not just for the main club floor... they also have an outside courtyard area and downstairs bar area.

I don't understand why Manchester city council hasn't done this club for it, the over crowding used to be a joke and the bouncers have admited it was too full many times but they just have to do what they get paid for.

People don't complain becuase the drinks are about half of what weatherspoons charge! In fact in weeknights their Corona is cheaper than off licences.
