Any ideas for a hifi passive volume control? Anybody use a NHT PVC? I was looking at getting a passive preamp but they are real expensive and i dont need the switching capability just and excellent volume control.

blackthorne - I was looking at the NHT PVC Pro and Goldpoint SA1x for my system. The goldpoint is a little more expensive, but the SA1 is a bit cheaper than the x.

For 600$ you can get an ussed Passive RVC on AudiogoN - prolly the best resistor based passive money can buy.

Does it need to be resistive based? I prefer transformer based myself. The Prometheus has got a lot of good press and it is very affordable. If you want something more up-market the Django looks good and comes in a number of options.

For resistive, how about a Welborne Labs?
