Folks - toying with the idea of trying one of Icon's Stereo 40 amps, but can't decide between the EL34, KT66 or KT88 options... which one to go for? All will provide enough power output, on what basis should I decide? Speakers are LV Auditorium II. Ta.

You could save some money and buy from www.edenlake.com Mine is the same amp. but without Icons nice little touches most of which affect servicing, apart from the lack of a tape loop. I like the EL34, lovely midband and treble, gives everything a really nice openness. Everyone will have their favourites. Probably best to go and try them tbh and see what floats your boat

Dont think Edenlake does them anymore, but still plently on feebay. Personally Id go for KT88's if budget allows, this would give you the flexibilty of using other tubes such as EL34's. You might be able to use KT88's on a std EL34 amp but quite often you need to change a resistor.

Looks like the eden lake website is on holiday (will it come back?).... anyway I need a tape out - unless anyone knows a good valve integrated with a headphone output? - apart from the Cary that was reviewed in HFW last month

pretty easy to convert one of the inputs into a tape out.

(well it was easy for the bloke I paid £30 to do it)
