Just a quick question for the more technically minded folks. I'm in the process of assembling a phono stage and having sourced the electronic components I've now turned my attention to the asthetics. I came across these rather cool switches http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/catalog/v...1MDG3MW00LRQFIAEXSFE4AVAAS4IV3?prodId=4303052 which I thought would make a great power switch. However upon reading the tech specs I noticed that they were only rated to 24V DC @ 50 mA. So I was wondering, would there be a way to get them to work at 240V AC? Or would I be better off looking for alternatives rated for 240V AC? Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Most switches use neon lights, that will add ripple to the mains voltage, you could use small caps to eliminate it but seems a lot more than neccesary tbh.
You could you the 24V one with a relay possibly, again more than needed.

I think you can get 240v rated LED illuminated one now, check RS or farnell

No joy finding a 240V illuminated version of that switch, but I reckon I'll just go with the non-illuminated version (4212277 @ Farnell) as that will still give the asthetic that I'm looking for. Plus it sounds like having illuminated switches might not be such a 'bright' idea after all.

It seems to be taken that neons can cause problems in power feeds.
Maybe it could be overcome with using a small cap in parallel with the light to smooth it a bit.
The 240V LED may be an option.
Has to be blue thoug, or it will ruin the sound of your phono amp.

Im trying to source a bicolour LED at the moment for my tube phono stage. I can find red/green but i want red/blue. Red on initial power on, blue when heater supply is up. No luck so far

Red/Blue is a very difficult bi-colour to find. However, there are some RGB tri-colour leds, where you could ignore the green. Farnell 621-407 and 621-419

    230V AC LEDs:

    230 V ac Red 387-4588
    230 V ac Green 387-4590
    230 V ac Yellow 387-4606
    230 V ac Blue 387-4618
    230 V ac/dc White Clear Lens 387-4620
    230 V ac White Diffused Lens 387-4631

These are small bayonet bulb fitting LEDs.
