Interactive DAC and ADC Test - Interactive DAC and ADC Test

I think most modern DACs are transparent and nothing they add or take from the music can be heard. We can get an idea of the magnitude of the very small effects such equipment has on the sound by listening at home in your familiar system to see if you can identify the sound of my DAC and ADC combo when magnified ten times over!

I've extracted ~90 second clips from 4 tracks off CD. This has never come out of the digital domain or been near any method that could add jitter or other...

I really wish I could take part in this test.I think that an enormous amount of effort must have gone into its preparation.Unfortunately I just don't understand anything to do with computer type sound reproduction.
I clicked on the first tests and got some nice music (even though it was only coming through the little speaker in my monitor).I clicked on the second set and my screen filled up with black diamonds with a question mark in them mixed in with a jumble of letters.I decided at this stage to give up because I didn't know what I was doing. However my Apple decided not to respond to any commands so I had to switch it off and start again.
I buy C.D.s and play them on my HI-FI,I record on C.D.s from radio or records and also use a reel to reel.
I wish that I new my Wavs from my Loss-less Flacs but to me they are just words that other people use.
I wish you the best of luck in getting responses on this labour of love,I could probably guess who will reply to you but I doubt if there will be enough of them to form a quorum.
Pete.

Hi Pete,

It might be the FLAC file causing the issue as it won't play on a mac.
WAV should work though.
I think Simon has 16 bit versions if the WAV file, if not I can post them for you.

I have done already on the PFM thread. I don't think I will publish results here, I'll cut up the sections of music and leave it as a test for people to try for themselves.

Ah, right. I had a look at the 'results' post on the PF thread (45 pages, yuk!), but because you have changed them around from time to time I can't tell which my selection represents.

Can you PM me, telling me which way round I got them, or is there another way for me to discover this ?

JC
