Just got a Pioneer PL12D turntable complete with Ortophon cartridge and good needle for £1.04 + £12 postage of course. I connected it up, put on a spare drive belt, set the overhang, bias etc and played some oldie vinyll - Sounds really good, plenty bass, good detail, emotion on instruments and voices.

Got to be the Bargain of the Century!

    Anyone selling a LP12 for a tenner?

I can beat that, my grandma threw one away she asked me mum if I wanted and she replied "Ian has more than enough turntables". I have the grand sum of two, how is that enough?

cracking turntable. Massively undervalued because it's made by Pioneer. If it said Thorens on the lid they'd fetch much more

Yeah the big problem the Project suffers from is the rumble effect.

I really get annoyed when I realise I could have had an PL12 for free.

    The Bargain

I have been listening to the PL12 for about a week now and comparing it with my BD2, both have ortophon VMS something E cartridges. The differences between the two are really quite interesting. The PL12 is a lovely piece of equipment to use, so easy to set up too - Its a Joy. The BD2 is a bit more fussy, requiring a spin with your hand to get it moving etc. The sound from the PL12D is detailed, musical and a joy to listen too. Rumble is barely discernible - no nasties etc and the cartridge tracks well on slightly past-their-best and slightly warped vinyl. The BD2 is more detailed and anylytical, slightly softer treble, clearer mids but suffers from audible rumble on quiet pieces of music which muddies the bottom end.

    Both were bought from ebay PL12D £1.04 , BD2 £10.00

Not much for a lot of fun!
