Your comments and reccomendations would be gratefully received.

    current system (old)

John Shearne Phase 2 Integrated Amp
Marantz CD52MkII - with separate QED digit Bitstream DAC
Pair of Tannoy 609, on lead shot filled apollo speaker Stands

Interconnects are all audioquest with Audioquest Crystal Hyperlitz speaker cable bi-wired.

In my previous house the setup was very audiocentric, with no compromise, I cant do it in this house, and I think I need to ditch the speakers and get a smaller pair (possibly wall mounted). I also am looking at replacing the cd set up.

Can you reccommend a good pair of Speakers and a CD Player, for around £1000.00 to £1200.00 or less if needed.

I do like the sound of the Phase two and i dont want to get rid of it.

Tell us about your new room.....furnishing, size, position of speakers etc.....

its probabley something easy to sort rather than blowing a great wad of money....unless you want to !

keep your cd player, spend it all on some second hand or exdem LV's. They'll work nicely with that amp.

    ceiling height ?,
    anything on the walls ?

Your sofa is only 7 feet from the speakers ?

Have you tried turning the room through 90 dergees [or rather the position of the hifi to fire down a different axis.

Haw far out from the walls are the speakers and how far appart ?

Hi, I had a phase 2 integ and I agree a very nice sounding amp for the money. I would recommend a Micromega stage 3 or 6 (the 6 is a better power supply but it is switchable). It compliments the JS well but it will sound smoother amd more relaxed than your current player.
By the way these go cheap (Ebay about 200 quid) as a few developed a skipping problem. This isnt a problem as its a Phillips cd head unit and can be bought for around 30 quid from a wholesale place in Wembly.
Easy to strip and solder the new one in plus spraing the slode bar with silicone. I bought a skipper and its worked like new ever since (2 years ago).
    Regards
    Dave

shame to ditch the 609's. They are a classic, and really I wouldnt expect you to get a better sound with a smaller wall mounted speaker.

Wall mounting a speaker and spending £1200 seem incompatible goals to me - you are compromising the sound quality by wall mounting, so why throw so much money at it?

I'd reccomend keeping the 609's if at all possible.

some good used hifi items here:

You could investigate the new pmc wall mount speakers. I haven't heard them but if their 'normal' speakers are anything to go by they might be very good.

    Shearne Phase 3 power amp

Hello, I am passing on my old system, and this is the nicest bit.

The Phase 3 is still in perfect condition, and I guess someone here is looking for one.

    cheers, wallruss
